 The 2008 2009 Subaru Baja is all-new for 2008 2009. The 2008 2009 2009 Baja is, generally speaking, a
car-based crew-cab pickup truck. The 2008 2009 2009 Baja's closest competitors include
the Buick Rendezvous, the Mazda Tribute, and the Toyota RAV4. Upon
introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, H4,
165-horsepower engine that achieves 20-mpg in the city and 25-mpg on the
highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard, and a
4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional.
The Baja has seating accommodations for four full-size adults, with rear-seat
legroom measuring just under an inch shorter than the Outback wagon's rear

| 2008 2009 Subaru Baja substitutes the cargo box of a pickup truck.
2008 2009 Subaru Baja has added some features that make the cargo box even more useful. Most importantly, the Baja's cargo bed can be extended by using the "Switchback" midgate feature, similar to the design found on the Cadillac Escalade EXT and Chevrolet Avalanche. A trapdoor behind the rear seatbacks folds forward into the rear seating area, expanding the usable length of the bed from 41.5 to 60 inches. It's our opinion that the Baja is more of an exercise in style and a statement about your lifestyle than a conveyance rooted in function. It's for those who frequent Home Depot as a hobby, picking up a new ficus and trellis instead of drywall and furniture. It's great at transporting long sporting items, such as a surfboard or skis, but not necessarily great for a primary caregiver in Seattle picking up the kids and the groceries during a
rainstorm. Subaru figures that the Baja will appeal to those wanting utility without the harsh ride and poor fuel economy that often come with it. |

 2008 2009 Subaru Baja has limited appeal, but for those who need about half the open-bed cargo utility of a truck as well as a vehicle that rides like a car, the Baja will suit them just fine. There is just one Baja trim level, and nearly everything is standard equipment. This includes air conditioning, a six-way power driver seat, perforated leather-trimmed upholstery, power windows and locks, a CD player and a power moonroof. The 3,485-pound Baja can carry a maximum payload of 1,050 pounds. The Baja comes standard with antilock brakes and pre-tensioners and load limiters for the front seatbelts. The
2008 2009 Subaru Baja rides much more like a car than a truck. The Baja's ground clearance of 7.3 inches should allow it to travel on some dirt roads, but don't plan on traversing anything more intensive than that. |
