Posted on: October 19, 2010 | In Saturn

The 2011 Saab 9 5 Sport Wagon is a great companion for covering distances in a hurry. The seats are supportive and the interior is well designed. Clever ergonomic solutions, like seats with fans, an aircraft-style map light, and Saab’s Night Panel remind you this is a Scandinavian car. The roomy rear seat makes The 2011 Saab 9 5 Sport Wagon comfortable for four adults. 2011 Saab 9 5 Sport Wagon is available in three trim levels, or “Forms.” The 2011 Saab 9 5 Sport Wagon Linear, Arc, and Aero each offer a distinct personality. Essentially, they match interior styles and engine performance to suit the different personalities and priorities of their owners. 2011 Saab 9 5 Sport Wagon models are luxurious cars powered by Saab’s 185-horsepower 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. They come with an impressive level of standard equipment, including leather upholstery with leather door-panel inserts, a walnut-trimmed instrument panel, power front seats with electric heat, power sliding sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, cabin air filter, power windows, power central locking, steering-wheel audio controls.

Arc is designed to emphasize a sports-luxury touring role and is powered by a 200-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. Arc comes standard with the new Sentronic five-speed automatic transmission, which can be manually shifted using buttons on the steering wheel. Standard features include ventilated leather seats with electric heat plus their own internal three-speed fan to circulate cooling air in the summer. Aero models offer the ultimate in performance with a 2.3-liter High-Output Turbo (HOT) four-cylinder engine rated 250 horsepower. The Aero’s four-cylinder engine is hotter than the Arc’s V6. Up front, smooth bumpers, an integrated grille, and clear-lens headlamps emphasize performance. Those clear headlight lenses show off the optional bi-xenon projector headlamps, which give The 2011 Saab 9 5 Sport Wagon a high-tech, night-fighter look. Glance in the rear-view mirror, and that 2011 Saab 9 5 Sport Wagon behind you presents a focused look that says, “Get out of the way!” Badges on the trunk lids identify the engines on the Linear (2.3t) and Arc (3.0t) models. Exclusive wheels differentiate Linear, Arc, and Aero. Linear rides on 16-inch, ten-spoke alloy wheels, while Arc runs five-spoke 16-inch alloys. Sporty 17-inch alloy wheels with ten spokes come on the Aero model, with low-profile 225/45WR-17 all-season radials, a tip-off that this is a high-performance car. The 2011 2011 Saab 9 5 Sport Wagon is a roomy, comfortable car with supportive leather seats. Interior materials are high quality. The seats in The 2011 Saab 9 5 Sport Wagon offer sufficient side bolstering for hard cornering, yet sliding into and out of them was easy. Two fans are located in each of the front seats, one in the seatback and one in the seat bottom that draw air in through perforations in the leather. When it’s cold, the seat heaters can be turned on, and feature adjustable temperature settings, useful as the car warm up. Rear-seat passengers who generally have to wait longer for the car to warm up than front-seat passengers appreciate seat heaters in the rear. Brushed aluminum panels on The 2011 Saab 9 5 Sport Wagon dash give it a sporty look.

2011 Saturn Ion

Posted on: | In Saturn

2011 Saturn Ion is a compact sedan or a coupe that emphasizes style and innovation. 2011 Saturn Ion features some significant updates, including higher-grade interior fabrics and richer-looking interior trim in more harmonious colors. Additional sound-deadening material brings a quieter cabin. The stereo systems have been improved and are available with an MP3 player, XM Satellite Radio, and a six-CD changer. 2011 Saturn Ion steering has been re-calibrated for improved road feel at speed. Both of the available automatic transmissions have been refined as well. 2011 Saturn Ion is available as a four-door sedan, or as an innovative coupe with two reverse-opening auxiliary rear doors.

The sedan is offered in three trim levels. The coupe is available in the upper two levels. Saturn does things a little differently from other car manufacturers, so instead of assigning arbitrary letter combinations to each trim level, Saturn calls them simply Ion 1, Ion 2, and Ion 3.

All 2011 Saturn Ion models are powered by the same 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine, rated 140 horsepower. A five-speed manual transmission is standard. Automatic transmissions are available, but Saturn installs different units in the sedan and the coupe. Sedans use a five-speed automatic, which is unusual in this price range. Coupes use a continuously variable transmission (VTi, Saturn calls it) that uses pulleys and belts instead of gears to maximize smoothness and efficiency. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) with traction control are available on all other 2011 Saturn Ion. Head curtain air bags that protect both front and rear-seat passengers in a side impact are an unusual option in this price class. CD and CD/MP3 systems are available on Ion 1 and Ion 2. XM Satellite Radio and On Star are offered at levels 2 and 3. A convenience package adds cruise control plus power locks, mirrors, and windows to Ion 2. A power sunroof is offered on all models except the Ion 1 sedan. Leather upholstery is available on Ion 3. It’s more than four inches taller than the previous-generation S-Series that it replaced. The 2011 Saturn Ion roof curves heavily down to the high trunk line almost giving it the appearance of a hatchback rather than a traditional sedan. The look is contemporary and not that dissimilar from the Nissan Altima and Volkswagen Passat, both lauded for their design. 2011 Saturn Ion maintains the Saturn tradition of attaching composite polymer body panels to a substantial steel space-frame. The polymer panels can’t rust and, because they are slightly resilient, they resist the minor impacts that leave small dents and dings in sheet metal. The down side is that the Saturn’s panels look thicker than steel sheet and gaps between body parts have to be greater to allow for expansion in hot weather. Another benefit of the composite panels is that they are relatively easy to replace. Saturn has exploited this advantage on the Ion by offering alternatively colored roof rails that owners can easily install to customize their car’s appearance. All 2011 Saturn Ion come with body-color roof rails, but Nickel-Silver rails are available for the coupe and the sedan, and Charcoal rails are available for the sedan.

2011 Saturn L Series

Posted on: | In Saturn

The 2011 Saturn L Series continues to be stuffed with value. Head-curtain air bags, automatic headlamps and ABS with traction control are standard on all models. Options include On Star and a DVD entertainment center that’s a segment exclusive. Floor mats and anti-lock brakes are optional, however. Saturn’s legendary customer service also remains, a key attraction for buyers who want a pleasant buying experience and a friendly service. For 2011, the Saturn L-Series is streamlined with two versions of the sedan and two versions of the wagon. Sedan and wagon come in L200 and L300 levels. A 135-horsepower 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine powers wagon. The L300 and 2011 Saturn L Series is equipped with a 182-horsepower 3.0-liter V6. All come standard with an automatic transmission.

Echoing the changes to the exterior, The 2011 Saturn L Series was dressed up as well. Brushed nickel trim now decorates the interior, providing a more expensive look combined with new silver-faced gauges. On the other hand, flashing from the molding process can be seen and felt around the interior. The seats are roomy and comfortable. 2011 Saturn L Series designed them to provide big-car accommodations without a sofa-like experience. As a result, they are supportive without being restrictive. The steering wheel is nicely contoured with finger grips and feels good to the touch, as do other interior surfaces. The steering wheel spokes are set low at each side, which allows for easy use of the correct 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock hand positions. Wood trim in the center dash area looks out of place, however, and the two-tone door trim and mouse fur roof liner are not up to the standards of this class. The sound system is located above the heating, ventilation and air conditioning controls. Audio controls are nice big, clearly labeled knobs that are easy to operate while driving.

Driver and front passenger air bags are standard, of course, but so are front and rear side curtain air bags, a feature not even optional in most competitive cars. For 2011, the plain faces of the earlier models have been replaced with a grille with more flash and a brighter Saturn badge. The grille lattice, if one looks closely, is formed from small arcs of the Saturn planet-and-ring logo. At either end of the grille are standard projector beam headlamps with clear lenses framed by chrome trim. Optional fog lamps are inset in the new front fascia. 2011 also brings a higher hood to the keyword cars. 2011 Saturn L Series is based on the same structure as the Opel Vectra. Unlike Saturn’s smaller S-series sedans and coupes, The 2011 Saturn L Series cars use steel for the rear fenders and trunk lid. Saturn engineers felt that a large car demands a large cargo area and that this area must have the added rigidity of steel. When refueling we noticed that the fuel filler door is plastic and feels flimsy, though it may well be quite durable.
