Ford Explorer Issued for Recall

The Ford Explorer has always been a good selling vehicle for the Ford Motor Company. In fact, the 2011 Explorer was named Truck of the Year at the North American Auto Show. Thus, it has come as a huge surprise that the Explorer is being recalled for issues dealing with the seats.

The Explorer is being recalled for a problem with the second row of seats. However, the recall is only affecting around 1,600 of these vehicles because they are those that are just coming off the production line. Those vehicles that are being affected were made between July and December of last year. Ford has outlined the problem as being one that is concerned with safety. Apparently, if the vehicle is involved in a crash, the second row of seats may not hold up as well as they should, which could lead to injuries to those passengers using the second row of seats.

The fault for the recall is being blamed on the manufacturer for the second row seats, Lear Corporation who were responsible for shipping the defected seats. Ford said that they noticed the problem in December and had since then warned their dealers to not sell those vehicles that were affected before the company had the chance to repair the problem.

ford explorerThis recall adds to a long list of recalls that Ford has issued in the last few months. Right now, Ford has recalled around 900,000 vehicles since the beginning of 2011 for small problems like those with the Explorer. So is this recent recall going to affect consumers opinions of Ford and the new Explorer?

People are grateful that Ford has caught these problems before they caused accidents and perhaps even death. However, with all the automakers out there, they have all issued recalls recently. It has left many people wondering where the devotion to quality has gone and whether quality will become a goal again.
