The BMW 745Li is an excellent sedan car, which is a pleasure to drive or in which to be driven around. The interior of the 745Li is very smart and extremely comfortable. There is plenty of space for both passengers and luggage. The interior is trimmed with luxurious materials such as leather, wood and brushed aluminum, and there are some interesting features such as electric window shades which help to make the ride more comfortable.
The driver's experience of the 745Li is also incredibly comfortable. This is a responsive car that is very enjoyable to drive, even over long distances. It handles well, with plenty of power, and has superb brakes. The excellent brakes are one of the features for which the BMW 745Li is best known. This vehicle is excellent over long distances and it is also an enjoyable drive over difficult roads.
The Active Roll Stabilization features ensures that the 745Li corners smoothly and with very little roll. The Adaptive Ride Package that is sometimes offered as an optional extra with the 745Li can improve the handling of this car even more. It is provided as standard on the 2011 745Li. This package includes Electronic Damping Control, which adjusts the shock absorbers to provide the appropriate firmness for different types of road surface. The driver also has the option of switching to Sport mode using a switch on the console for an even firmer, sportier ride, although most drivers will rarely use this function.
One feature that may prove useful is that the 745Li's doors will be held open at any position to which they are opened, unlike most door check systems, which generally are only able to hold the door open at certain predetermined positions. This feature will be particularly useful for parents with young children who need to be strapped in or attended to, or drivers whose passengers find it difficult to get in and out of a car and are, therefore, at risk of coming to harm should the door swing shut.
The design of the 745Li has been criticized for a lack of elegance, although this is largely a matter of personal taste and many people find that once they are accustomed to the style they actually find it attractive. The rear of the car has sometimes been considered too large and heavy looking. The size of the car does not make it difficult to drive, however. The steering is very responsive and performance is excellent.
BMW have used a lot of aluminum in the manufacturing of the 745Li, notably creating an aluminum suspension. The use of aluminum has significantly reduced the weight, making the 745Li a more comfortable vehicle in which to ride and ensures that the car handles well, even on difficult surfaces.
The BMW 745Li compares favorably with its competitors in terms of performance. It outperforms the Audi A8L, the Mercedes Benz S430 and the Jaguar XJ8. The 745Li can reach speeds of 60 miles per hour in 6.5 seconds.
The main problem with the 745Li is the iDrive interface system, which is supposed to make the driving experience easier and allow the driver to enjoy all of the benefits which modern technology can bring. In reality, however, the iDrive system can seem to make things more complicated rather than making them easier. The controls which the driver is expected to use can be confusing and some of them are small and difficult to use. The area around the driver appears cluttered and overwhelming. It can take some time to become accustomed to this iDrive interface and work out how to work through the menus and sub-menus which control the navigation, communication, entertainment and climate systems.
Apart from the iDrive system, the 745Li is an excellent car that is a pleasure to drive. It is worth being patient with the iDrive interface and taking some time to get to know it in order to be able to enjoy the BMW 745Li without being confused by the controls.

These cars also offer passengers plenty of room for an enjoyable ride. The main drawbacks of the BMW 745Li, which it shares with the other models in the BMW 7 series, are the poor fuel economy and that the iDrive control layout is confusing and difficult to use. Drivers who can cope with the inconvenient iDrive interface, or who rarely need to adjust or use these features, will find that the BMW 745Li is a superb car that is among the best performers in its class.

The 2011 BMW 745li is full of unique and innovative feature helping the advances one traditionally expects of a new BMW: namely, evolution in suspension, steering, brakes, wheels and tires. But make no mistake: The 2011 BMW 745li also propels the road capabilities of the largest BMW Series decisively into the future with fascinating innovations: Aluminum suspension. Most major components are of aluminum, which compared to steel reduces unsprung weight. In turn, this enhances riding comfort and, on irregular road surfaces, handling as well. The brake calipers, which move up and down with the wheels as they encounter road irregularities, are also of aluminum for the same reason. Active Roll Stabilization. Combining with the evolutionary aluminum suspension, Active Roll Stabilization is a revolutionary feature. Its primary function is to reduce body roll in cornering, which improves handling by virtue of improved suspension geometry (wheel angles relative to vertical) resulting from the reduced roll.
In place of conventional, purely mechanical anti-roll (stabilizer) bars, ARS senses cornering motion and hydraulically twists specially configured anti-roll bars to counteract body roll; drivers and passengers alike marvel at The 2011 BMW 745li amazingly "flat" cornering.

- Ride firmness is always at the optimum level for the current road conditions, vehicle speed and the passenger-and-cargo load carried.
- On smooth roads, the shock absorbers are kept "soft" for best comfort.
- When the vehicle is rounding a sharp corner or curve, the shock absorbers are instantly adjusted to a firmer, just-right level.
- When the vehicle encounters irregular road surfaces, such as bumps or ripples ("washboard" surface), the shocks are automatically adjusted to the optimum level of firmness to control ride motions, keep riding comfort at an acceptable level, and maintain adhesion to the road.
- Additionally, there is a Sport setting via a console switch that increases firmness for a sportier driving feel.
2011 BMW 745li brakes' swift, sure stopping power is legend, so it should be no surprise that the 7 Series incorporates one of the most powerful braking systems ever employed in a production BMW. The brake discs are ventilated all around, with robust 348-mm/13.6-in. diameter at the front and 345-mm/13.7-in. diameter at the rear. But large dimensions are by no means these brakes' only salient features: Aluminum calipers, mentioned earlier in the suspension context, reduce unsprung weight. Electronic brake proportioning. Via the Dynamic Stability Control wheel-speed sensors, the amount of slip at each wheel is measured when the brakes are applied, and pressure is apportioned to the front and rear brakes accordingly. This makes best use of the available braking traction at the tires and helps distribute brake and tire wear more evenly.
Among them are – Stepless door checks. Even with the 2-position door checks of other BMWs, how many times have we wished for another place to hold the door open so that we could get in or out while avoiding hitting something with the door? The 7's door checks are hydraulic and stepless, holding the door at any position to which the occupant opens it. They are effective with the vehicle pointing uphill up to 10*, or leaning to one side or the other up to 6*. Seating: many choices. The head restraints are coupled with fore-aft seat adjustment: farther forward (shorter driver), lower head restraint and vice versa. (Fine adjustment of the head restraints is manual.) Counting the head-restraint movement as a power adjustment, the front seats are 14-way driver / 12-way passenger, including 4-way power lumbar.
