April Sales Increase for Auto Market

Total auto sales in the market for last month increased by 18%, which is astounding considering that many automakers have raised their prices a bit, and were afraid that this would impact their sales. For this year, this is the second biggest percentage increase that the auto market is reporting, as they have sold around 13.2 million units. Just above the 13 million mark that was set as their goal. Even with the high price of gasoline and the shortage of parts and supplies that has kept many automakers in check, they are still reporting profits, which is something most people were not expecting to see.

Hyundai and Kia were able to raise their percentage of sales by around 47%, while General Motors and Chrysler really boosted their sales. It would seem that Toyota, Honda, and Nissan were the three automakers that did not see their shares rising too much since they were most affected by the Japanese disaster that has devastated automakers throughout the world, not only Japanese automakers.

The stars of the automotive increase seem to go to the smaller cars and light trucks that these automakers are offering. Too many people are aware of the gas prices and they know that they could eventually go up again. Thus, they are buying smaller, more gas efficient cars. For example, GM reports that the Cruze is one of the best selling cars that they have. While Ford has the Focus, and Hyundai has the Elantra. These small cars are making up the bulk of vehicles that are being sold, showing that the world is embracing the concept of smaller cars.

The sales of these smaller cars is only expected to increase as people are bracing for the worse when it comes to the gas prices. However, this is not stopping some people from purchasing the larger vehicles, as automakers are pointing out. They state that the economy is better now that it has been in a while, and people are taking advantage of it.
