Aveo Gets New Name

The Chevrolet Aveo is getting a new name…the Sonic. This is set to go into effect when the newly redesigned car is released early of next year. This has led many people to wonder why Chevrolet and General Motors has decided to change the name now, after the car has already been on the market for a while. Officials from GM said that they had been considering a name change for quite a while since the public has a hard time of pronouncing Aveo, and often the name is mispronounced by many people.

The Chevrolet Sonic will be yet another vehicle that is part of the Chevrolet small car line, joining the Cruze and other small cars. Many have worried though that changing the name of the Aveo after it has already been established since 2004. However, with all the new redesigns that are going into the car, it is going to seem like a completely new car. With this in mind, the idea of the car becoming confused with another car is going to be nearly impossible as it will be different from the other small cars out there.

The Chevrolet Sonic is going to have both sedan and a hatchback version available for consumers to purchase. The car is going to be built in the plant located in Orion Township, Michigan. This plant was actually planned to be closed, however, after the government bailed GM out, the plant was allowed to stay open.

The Sonic is expected to make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January of 2011. The car will then go on sale for around $12, 685 a few months after debuting. With the price and the size of the small car, plus the hype of the car, it is sure to be one that consumers are going to flock to with the price of gas raging out of control.
