For those that own their vehicle if they are wanting to make sure that when the time comes to trade this in that they have a car that is worth something, then they need to not only focus on the under the hood aspects, but the exterior as well.
Good maintenance for the exterior of the car starts with washing the car. This sounds simple enough, and most people will do this a few times every year. But, they are going to find that if they are using the wrong products when they are washing their cars that they could be doing more harm than good. For example, always use a soft cloth to wash the car, never use something that is abrasive. Using an abrasive cloth can make tiny scratches into the clear coat that will later lead to peeling and the scratches can go deep into the paint. The person is going to find that on some cars, such as those that are black that these scratches are going to be easily noticeable. With that being said, the soap that the person is using to wash their vehicle is also something that they need to be aware of. Many people think that any soap will do and they end up using a dish detergent that they use in washing their dishes. However, this is very harmful and can strip the clear coating on cars, and lead to the paint become cracked and damaged. Therefore, in order to do this right, the person needs to use a detergent that is formulated to work on cars in order to get the best results.
After washing, drying and waxing is the next step. Those that dry the car with a towel that is formulated to get the water are going to find that they do not have to worry about water spots and that they end up with a shiny exterior. Waxing is also something that people should be doing at least two times per year. They are going to find that the wax is going to help to maintain the luster of the car and keep it from slowing cracking and peeling, which does happen to those cars that never see any wax. The person needs to put this on in circular motions, let it dry, then rub off in circular motions to get the best look that is possible.
There is more to car ownership than just changing the oil and checking the tires. The person is going to find that if they do nothing more than that, they may have a car that runs great, but lacks in the looks department.
