Compare Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Cherokee

For those that are in the market to buy an off road vehicle, they have several to choose from. However, two of these vehicles that are really making heads turn is the new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2011 Jeep Wrangler. Both of which are offered by Chrysler, however, they are competing head to head for consumers attention.

Gas Mileage

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler is going to give consumers 15 miles per gallon in the city, while offering 19 miles per gallon on the highway. The Jeep Cherokee is offering 13 to 16 miles per gallon in the city, while offering 19 to 23 miles per gallon on the highway.

Engine and Transmission Choices

With the 2011 Jeep Wrangler there is only one engine choice and this is the V6 engine that is a 3.8 liter that produces 202 horsepower. In terms of transmissions, there are two choices, a four speed automatic and a six speed manual transmission. The base model includes the automatic transmission.

The Cherokee is coming in two engine options. The first is a 3.6 liter, V6 that offers 290 horsepower. While the second is a V8, 5.7 liter engine that offers 360 horsepower. Transmissions wise, the person gets to choose between a five speed automatic or a five speed multi-speed automatic that both offer overdrive.

Pros of Each Vehicle

One of the biggest advantages of the Jeep Wrangler is the fact that the interior is made to where people can take a water hose and simply spray the area down in order to clean it. This is great for those that do a lot of outdoors activities, such as mudding. The off road capabilities of the Wrangler is also something that has impressed those that have driven and reviewed the car in the professional world. There are always numerous points given to the vehicle for the rugged styling of the Wrangler that makes it look ready to take on anything that comes its way.

The biggest pro of the Cherokee is that it has been given high safety ratings. In addition, people like that the interior is more spacious than what it has been in the past. The ride is one that is comfortable thanks to seats that are designed for comfort. In addition, the off road capability is something that most people are talking about and praising.

Cons of Each Vehicle

The ride quality of the Wrangler is not as great as people would have hoped. However, this is an off roading vehicle, thus the ride quality is much like what people would expect with such a vehicle. Other people reported that the interior was not completely silent while driving on the highway which did hinder conversations that occurred in the cab. Another big turn off for those that are in the auto world is the fact that the side air bags on the Wrangler are not standard and are instead a special order item.

The downside of the Cherokee is that for those that are wanting this vehicle for off roading they are going to want to go with the V8 engine since the V6 does not perform as well as people would have hoped. In addition, professionals in the market point out that the cargo floor is a bit higher than they would have liked.

Conclusion

Both the Wrangler and the Jeep are two vehicles that are being seriously considered by consumers for their off roading capabilities. The choice between the two really depends on the size that the person wants and so forth.
