Fiat and Chrysler Considering Natural Gas to Power Vehicles
Fiat and Chrysler through their partnership are toying around with the idea of using natural gas in vehicles. The companies maintain that using natural gas would be the best decision for consumers in the United States. The reason is that the emission levels would be much less than current fossil fuel usage. Plus, it is less expensive when you take into consideration purchasing it and then transporting it to areas for consumers.
The companies have also said that this idea could be the idea that turns electric cars into a less loved situation. Why? Simply because they believe that GM and Nissan who are releasing the Volt and the Leaf are not taking into consideration the charge time that people will have to put into the vehicles in order to make the vehicles run.
Fiat and Chrysler are both looking at their options for natural gas vehicles, as they know that they must do something since they are falling behind the electric concept cars that are becoming popular. However, they do believe that this new technology is going to benefit those companies that would like to save on gas and protect the environment, much like GM and Nissan are focusing on. The reason is that finding natural gas fill up stations would be much harder for consumers, however, for those public sectors finding fill up stations would be much easier.
Fiat already has a wide stake into the natural gas field, as they own 55% of some natural gas companies. Hence, the reason that they are very interested in this idea. Fiat is scheduled to enter back into the auto market in the next year, and they hope to take their technology and use it to benefit Chrysler in order to turn the automaker around. Professionals and the government are interested in the idea of natural gas to power vehicles in order to save on fossil fuels.
