Fuel Efficient Driving Tips

The price of gas today is acting like a yo-yo. One day it is goes up twenty cents on the gallon and then in a week it may go down ten cents. Sometimes it seems like it is changing every day. At the pump today gas prices are hovering around the four dollars a gallon. If you are tired of only getting almost four gallons for ten dollars here are some tips to help you become fuel efficient.

One of the biggest ways to help save gas is to moderate your speed. It is true that if you drive fifty five miles per hour instead of driving sixty or sixty five miles per hour you will get better gas mileage. Yes, it may take you a little longer to get to your destination, but if you can get more miles to the gallon, it is worth it. Everyone is guilty of letting their car idle while they run into a convenience store to grab a cup of coffee, or waiting in the car while someone else runs into the store. If you have to wait more than a couple of minutes, turn off the engine.

Make sure that you maintain proper tire pressure, especially if you are planning on taking a long trip. Make your driving smooth and even, not jerky. When you accelerate or stop, do it slowly, not suddenly.

You can also reduce the vehicle load by removing any unnecessary items from the car such as strollers, sport equipment plus de-clutter the car. Combine as many stops as you can in one trip such as going to the grocery store, going to the department store, and wherever you have to go.

If you follow just some of these fuel efficient suggestions, you will see that you will be getting more miles per gallon and saving money at the pump.
