GM Issues Recalls for SUV’s

General Motors has announced that they will be recalling 97,843 small SUV's starting in January. The reason for the recall is not anything life threatening, however, it could prove to be a problem if one of these SUV's is involved in an accident. The recall is for the seat belt anchor that could break if the vehicle is involved in an accident.

Those vehicles being recalled are the Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain, and Cadillac SRX. All of these are the 2011 models. GM has said that they will start to notify owners of the affected vehicles starting in January, in which they will cover the cost of the recall.

This is the second recall dealing with seat belt anchors for GM. Earlier, they recalled 200,000 pick up trucks that had child seat anchors missing. And are still in the process of fixing this problem.

Most of the SUV's that are being affected in the recall are from the states of Kentucky, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Indiana, Maine, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Vermont and Rhodes Island. The recall is affected around 25,674 Terrains, 59,606 Equinox models, and 12,563 Cadillac SRX models.

The repair should not take too long for GM to fix, as they are more than likely simply going to replace the seat belt anchors with one that is not defective. GM received the defective seat belt anchors from a Korean company, Autoliv Incorporation of Hyojin.

Will this recall affect sales of GM? The answer is probably not, as they have found the problem before there were any accidents involving the problem, which is going to give GM drivers a greater peace of mind. This recall announced by GM comes after a slue of other automakers have declared their own recalls in the last few months. Companies, such as Honda, Toyota and so on, all major competitors in the automotive world.
