GM Doing Their Part to Help with Gulf Oil Spill
As if the Chevrolet Volt was not popular enough, the automaker has now designed a way to reuse some of the plastic resin that was used to mop up the spill that BP had off the coast of Louisiana. This means that the company is not only promoting a greener world with the new Volt, but they are also doing their part to make that change occur even sooner than expected.
The Volt is using the plastic resin under the hood of the car. The plastic resin is being used in conjunction with other plastic parts in order to work. This is just a small way that GM is making sure that they have a positive effect on the environment. However, GM did not come up with this idea on their own. They did have some help from Heritage Environmental in which are collecting the used plastic resin, while Mobile Fluid Recovery are cleaning the plastic resin in order to make them usable. GM is also working with Lucent Polymers who is making the plastic die molds, while GDC Incorporation is combining the plastic resin with new plastic to make the car parts for GM. It is a total group effort that is underway.
However, for those that are a bit worried about the parts that are being made with the plastic resin, then rest assure since the parts are being used around the radiator in order to deflect air. The idea behind the use of this plastic resin is to make sure that people do not forget about the clean up that is still going on from the Gulf Oil Spill caused by BP. Plus, it is a great way for GM to be remembered in the minds of all of those who want to make a difference in the environment. No matter what the Volt is making a splash in the environmentally safe minds of everyone.
