New Oil Used in GM Vehicles

Those who are in the market to buy a new 2011 GM vehicle, whether it be a car, truck or SUV, or also in a for another surprise besides the advancements made from previous model years. The oil that is being used in the new 2011 GM vehicles is called dexos 1 and it has to be replaced with the same type.

The reason behind this is that the dexos 1 is a far superior oil that offers many benefits to the vehicle, which includes improved fuel economy. In addition, the old rule that an oil change is a must for every 3,000 miles is no longer with this new oil as it truly depends on the amount of driving and whether the driving is rough. It is thought that many people could go drive for 10,000 miles without having to change the oil, a huge plus for those consumers.

So what does this mean for the consumer? Well for starters, there is no option when it comes time to change your oil. Which means that you could expect to pay a lot more for the dexos 1 oil that your vehicle will recommend. Secondly, if you do make the unwise decision to not use dexos 1, you could possibly void your auto warranty.

Before everyone wards off GM for this decision, other manufacturers are also using the dexos 1 oil or its equivalent in their vehicles just because the benefits of using this oil far out weigh the disadvantages. Since the oil is designed to protect the engine better, it can be expected that in years to come this oil could very well take over the market and be present in all future vehicles.

For those that are not driving new models, but still have an interest in the dexos 1 oils, the good news is that these oils are also compatible in older engines, so it could be worth looking into with all the benefits that it offers.
