VW Recalls 2011 Jetta

Volkswagen is a member of those that have passed recalls recently. The company has announced that they will be recalling 71,043 Jetta's that are 2011 models. The models were made in March 2010 through March 2011. Thus far, it seems to be a wiring defect that could cause some systems in the car to short. However, in rare cases it could lead to the vehicle to stall, and if the vehicle stalls while on the road, it could lead to an accident.

The current writing of the car is made so that the wires to the anti theft system and the horn are protected by the same fuse. Should the horn go out, the anti theft system could go out as well. Because of this, if both systems go out at the same time, the car could see this as a threat and simply shut down.

There has been no accidents reported that have been caused by the wiring default. Volkswagen said that the dealerships will begin to arrange appointments for people to bring their cars in, within the next few weeks as consumers are notified. The dealerships are going to fix this problem free of charge and simply go in and arrange the wires in more logical order that do not have any two things running off of the same fuse. VW estimates that it will take about an hour for dealerships to do this with the cars.

What are consumers saying? It is a bit of a surprise to most as German engineering is supposed to be second to none and this problem that is occurring seems to be something that the automaker should have never done in the first place. Therefore, many people are disappointed. This could affect the reputation of VW in the future, unless they can make certain that this does not occur again with the other cars in their lineup.
