Court Rejects Appeal Against EPA Waiver

Those who are familiar with the state of California greenhouse emissions act are finding out that they may be in for a huge change with the new cars that are going to be produced in coming years. However, the US Chamber of Commerce and National Automobile Dealers Association asked the federal court to look into the act that would allow the state to enact its own requirements that the Environmental Protection Agency was wanting to implement. This new act, would mean that California could see some major changes that would make the automobiles be held up to higher standards. Though the associations were by no means no agreeing with the EPA that there should be aspects considered with this. They are stating that they do not believe that California should be held to higher standards than the rest of the United States.

The federal court has rejected the appeal of the associations against this act stating that they had no jurisdiction in this case. Basically, they all agreed that with the waiver that the EPA is offering would hurt no one that was in the state, thus the associations acting out were basically out of luck. The courts went on to point out that the EPA waiver would not have any affect on dealers since it is directed at automobile makers. Thus, the dealers really had no place in this fight.

Those that are close to the case state that this is great grounds for those that are working to make the world a cleaner place and that this shows that the rest of the United States is behind this decision. Most dealers were worried about the increased prices that this would cause, as well as the stricter rules that would be brought into place. However, in all reality, this is something that must be done in order to fight greenhouse emissions in the world, and it has to start somewhere.
