New Electric Cars

Japanese developers are unveiling an electric car that can go more than three hundred kilometers, or two hundred seven miles, before the battery dies. They hope to have the car on the market by 2013, but the cost still remains a secret. This electric car has four seats with each wheel having a motor in them plus an extra light frame. At this time, it is still a prototype and is also a joint project among thirty four organizations. Two members of the organization is an engineering firm called IH and the well-known car manufacturer, Mitsubishi Motors. Once it is ready to hit the market, they are planning for this phenomenal car to be sole to car manufacturers for mass production.

Nissan launched an all electric car last year called Leaf with a one hundred sixty kilometre range. Nissan is hoping that these electric cars which have zero tail pipe emissions will catch on with the car buyers. If they do, Nissan hopes these electric cars will start to run traditional gas guzzlers off the road.

Unfortunately, these electric cars still have several hurdles to face. Some of these hurtles are the very costly batteries plus the lack of recharging points that are conveniently located which limits how far they can operate.

In addition to Japanese developers working on a prototype of an electric car, Germany is planning to make a bold move to get the number all electric cars on Germany roads from virtually no cars to one million within ten years. At this time, there are only two thousand to three thousand all electric cars are registered in Germany.

Berlin is going to double the amount of financial aid to the electric car industry to two point eight billion dollars by the year 2013. This financial aid will go for the research and development of more powerful batteries, which can help reduce the cost of electric cars.
