Future of Saab

The automaker, Saab, has had a rough past year. And due to these difficulties, the automaker has basically ceased producing any new vehicles. However, they are now looking at using their collateral against the government issued loans that they have in order to pay off suppliers and hopefully be able to restart production once again. The production stopped a few weeks ago as they simply ran out of parts and could not afford to pay their suppliers what was owed in order to get more parts. The company has said that they hope to make this work and begin production once again next week at some point.

Saab was purchased by Spyker last year from General Motors who released their brand as part of their plan to rebuild their company. GM may have made the best decision that they could with releasing the company from their hold since it seems to be suffering even more now. And with the success that GM has had in the past few months, this would have certainly brought them down to a level that they would not have been happy with.

However, GM still has some shares in the brand that they are looking to sell to Vladimir Antonov, a Russian businessman. The name probably sounds familiar to most people as this was the man that GM had first thought to close the Saab deal with. However, Antonov was being questioned for being involved in a criminal investigation and because of the bad press, GM stepped away from the deal. Now that Antonov was cleared of any wrong doings, GM is willing to listen to his proposal once again.

What will become of Saab? Hopefully, the companies are able to pay off their debts and resume production. These cars are some of people's favorites that they can find. And it will be a shame if the brand is no longer offered to the world.a
