Twitter and Chrysler Incident

Chrysler received a very inappropriate tweet on their Twitter account that was riddle with the "f" word from one of the workers that work with New Media Strategies who had access to Chrysler's account. The tweet went alone the lines of something like, "Find it ironic that Detroit is known as the motorcity and yet no one here knows how to f—– drive". The tweet has been removed, however, that doesn't mean that the 8000 followers of Chrysler did not see it.

Chrysler followed this up with an apology explaining that their account had been compromised. Because of the incident, Chrysler is moving their account. Though the company is handling their accounts for right now as Chrysler finds another company to work with. Chrysler stated that they had enjoyed their time with the company and wish them all of the luck.

New Media Strategies has fired the employee who used Chrysler's account in order to make the comment and apologized to Chrysler and the public for the behavior of the person. After the news broke there has been tons of talk about the actions that Chrysler took. Many are saying that Chrysler is overreacting since the person responsible was fired that they should stay with the company. While others out there in the Internet world are amazed that the person who wrote the tweet is getting fired.

Did Chrysler overreact? Not exactly, they are looking out for what is good for their business, and getting this negative exposure through social media outlets that are known to boost production is not the kind of attention that people are wanting. As for the person that tweeted the line, they deserved to get fried. After all they used their position within a company to apparently spout about their intense road rage from the sounds of it.
