Ford Outlines New Plans

For those that want the newest technology in the cars that they are driving, then they are more than likely very excited about what Ford has to offer the world. They are working on providing the smallest engine that has ever been made in order to combat the rising gas prices that consumers are seeing at the pump. They are going to aim for a 1.0 liter, three cylinder engine in the next two years. They point out that this will work much like the popular four cylinder engine, but save much more fuel. The engine is going to be aiming to be in smaller cars, thus there is no way we are going to see this engine in their bigger vehicles, just yet. But in the future, who knows. 

Ford has also said that they are planning to build their own hybrid transmission that is going to replace what they use that is built by a Japanese company. They are planning on introducing an eight speed transmission into some of their vehicles during this time as well. But, why are they making all these changes? 

They are hoping that this is going to make their vehicles on the cutting edge and be those that are going to pass the stricter regulations that are coming into place soon. Through smaller engines, shaving the weight off of the vehicle and so forth, they are hoping to improve their gas mileage significantly, in order to meet these new regulations. 

All of the technology enhancements that they are making are going to be made at plants in the United States, though Ford has not given specific details on just which plants will handle each project. This is one thing that most people are looking forward to since it could mean that Ford becomes the top dog in the automotive industry once again. Right now they are in second place, but it looks like this could push them over the top.
