Luxury Automakers Gearing Towards Greener Cars

Mercedes-Benz is having a first in the sixty year history of the manufacturer, they are now coming out with a four cylinder S-sedan. They are doing this in order to contend with other manufacturers that are offering more green options to drivers. However, as of right now there are no real plans to sell this model in the United States.

Mercedes-Benz have invested 1 billion euros into their green technology in order to come up with a car that is more environmentally friendly and meet the emissions standards of governments. Despite the smaller engine that Mercedes-Benz is placing into the car, they are still promising that it will maintain its speed and performance that Mercedes-Benz is known for having.

The car is being called the S 250 CDI, which is the first car that Mercedes-Benz has built that uses less than 6 liters of fuel per 100 km. It is also the first vehicle made by Mercedes-Benz that has CO2 emission under the 150 gram mark. This version will cost around 3,700 euros less than the V6 version, but will cost 27,400 more than the entry-level E class car.

green fuelIn light of this idea to make greener cars, other automakers are following in the footsteps of Mercedes-Benz, including BMW that is turning to electric motors in order to develop their concept car that is set to go on the market in 2013. The car will utilize a three cylinder combustion engine with the aid of two electric motors.

Audi is following a similar path and using a four cylinder gasoline engine combined with an electric motor for a new version of the A8, which is set to be released in 2012.

These cars are going to be excellent options for those in the UK and other areas, where the government is adding taxes onto those vehicles that put out more carbon dioxide emissions. Which means that residents will have to shell out a bit more for cars, but many people believe that it is soon going to be their only option.
