Volt Not Included in Top Ten Green Cars

A surprise came to those that were viewing the annual list of green cars according to the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. This surprise was that the popular Chevrolet Volt did not make it into the top ten vehicles. It was ranked at number twelve. While the Nissan Leaf, one of those that were considered the equal to the Volt snagged the number two slot. So what went wrong for the Volt?

The board that determines these ratings said that since the Volt is a gasoline and electric car that they had to assume that the car would be driven in both manners. Meaning that the person is not driving in full electric mode all the time. They also stated that the gas mileage of the Volt was not something that was too impressive when compared to other small gasoline cars out there. They also consider the emissions that are put into the environment not only by the car when it is being driven, but as well as the process of manufacturing the cars, as well as considering the total weight of the car and the cost that it would take to dispose of the car. It is a complex system that is making these judgments, much more than just the emissions that most people think is being used to rank these cars.

What is GM thinking? It seems that GM is dismissing the ranking and stating that this is one groups opinion of where these cars are ranking. The Volt is one of those that are top of the line in technology that is being offered. To not include this in the top ten list seems a bit as if someone simply did not like the Volt. Though, many consumers that are buying the Volt are not concerned at all with the rating system, showing that GM really has nothing to worry about.
