Toyota Prius Recall

Toyota has announced yet another recall that is by no means going to help their tarnished reputation. The recall is affecting around 106,000 first generation Prius'. This is a worldwide recall, but the incident that led to the recall did take place in the United States. There are around 48,000 of these models that are being recalled in Japan that were made from 1997 to 2003. There are 52,000 that are being affected that were sold in the US from 2001 to 2003, around 1,200 that were sold in Great Britain and 800 that were sold in Germany. Just what is causing these cars to be recalled?

The culprit seems to be a nut that can come loose in the steering column that can affect the car over a long period of time. For example, those that have this problem may notice that they are having a harder time of steering the car in directions. And overtime this hardness of steering can lead to the nut actually breaking and the person loosing control of their car.

Toyota is going to fix the problem for the consumer, and each consumer can expect to spend around four hours waiting for their car. The problem is going to be fixed by replacing the nuts with better nuts on the steering column. They are hoping that this will mean that the Prius will not have any future problems. Is this latest recall going to affect the reputation of Toyota?

That is something that most people are waiting to find out. The reputation has already suffered quite a bit. However, most people are going to take into consideration that the recall is affecting cars that were made before the new policies of Toyota went into effect. It may mean that more and more people are less inclined to buy a used Toyota however, which could affect their sales in one way.
