Ford Shows New SR-71 Blackbird Aircraft Police Vehicle at 2010 SEMA Show
At the 2010 SEMA auto show, Ford debuted quite a few cars, but none as spectacular as the new police cruiser that is designed to be the ultimate in concealment. The car is pitch black, with dark tinted windows and black chromed wheels. The idea behind the car is that it is going to blend in well with those cars on the road, making it the ultimate in stealth that most law enforcement officials are looking for.
The car is designed around the Ford Taurus, however on the inside is anything, but the Ford Taurus. The interior of the car has all the gadgets that police utilize on a daily basis, including a computer built into the dashboard, and probably the most outstanding aspect of the interior is the glove compartment that is meant to stash extra weapons and ammunition.
The lights on the car are hidden, which means that from a distance, people will not be able to see them until they are turned on. However, for those people that do get close, the only aspect that will tip them off as to it begin a police car is the camera that is mounted to look out the front windshield.
The aim of the car was to not only conceal working police officers, but to also allow for officers to use a radar gun without detection, which it surely will be able to do.
Engine wise, Ford did not comment on any specifics, however did say that there will be an option to have an engine with 280 horsepower, or the turbo charged engine that will put out around 365 horsepower.
It is still unclear if the law enforcement agencies will embrace the new car, as the competition is the Dodge Charger. However, with all the effort that goes into the car to conceal its appearance, it will no doubt become a favorite of many law enforcers.
