GM Making Changes at Flint Plant

GM is making a few changes that are going to come as a big surprise to many and many believe it could not have come at a better time. GM plans to add more jobs at its Flint plant where the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, their heavy duty trucks are built. The reason being is that they need to increase output so that these trucks are available to those that need them, which has been a problem recently.

Overall, the plant is expected to hire on an additional 750 workers to the third shift at the plant. What is really interesting is that the majority of those workers that are going to be coming to the Flint plant were laid off from other plants. GM is doing its best to make sure that these workers get priority over those that have never worked for GM, which is good news for many of those that lost their job last year while GM tried to straighten out their financial situation. If the company does have any positions left after filling them in with those that were laid off, they plan to hire others in the area who has been laid off from their jobs.

Right now the plant produces about 115,000 heavy duty trucks over the course of one year, they are hoping to increase this output. However, they did not state a goal that they want to reach. Both the Sierra and the Silverado are two of the best selling heavy duty trucks on the market, and are sought after by many of those looking for a work truck because in tests these trucks have performed better than the competition, plus the Silverado took home the Truck of the Year award this year, making it automatically desired by many.

What GM is doing shows that they are taking an interest in the welfare of their workers, and it is going to speak volumes to the general public. Because of this act, it wouldn't be surprising if more people turned to GM for their vehicle needs.
