Honda Facing Possible Recall

An unnamed woman has filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for her 2005 Honda Accord. The reason for the complaint is that she wants the cars braking and acceleration system recalled. This was after she was in an accident that killed a passenger and ended up disabling her. According to the women she drove over the grooves that are found in the emergency lanes on the sides of roads, when she tried to stop, the car sped up on its own and would not respond to her foot on the brake. Sounds eerily similar, doesn't it?

Toyota problems started off with the same type of incident, and ended up recalling thousands of vehicles all over the world. According to the NHTSA, if the problem with the Accord's are declared a recall, around 25,000 vehicles would be affected for that year of production.

The NHTSA has not made any decision as of yet, as they are still examining the cases. There are many other cases on their website that talk of the same problems. The problem seems to only occur when the car is driven over an uneven surface, and deals with the performance of the brakes. So what does this mean for the future of Honda?

Well this all depends on what decision the NHTSA makes. However, with all the publicity that Honda is getting that is less than stellar, it could possibly affect their sales. With the similar problems that Toyota saw, they did see a drop in sales, however, are now starting to get somewhere close to the popularity range that they were in before the recalls. Honda should prepare for the same type of situation. However, on the upside Honda has really won over many customers in recent years, this devotion could carry over so that Honda does not see any repercussions from the issue if it is deemed a recall.
