Crash Test Safety for Leaf and Volt

With the electric cars becoming all the rage, most people are wondering if and how they would do in crash testing's, after all, no one wants to be driving a car that is basically not going to protect them should they become in an accident. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested many cars, and the two that came out on top were the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt. Which means that most people are now more than ready to purchase these vehicles, thanks to the testing results.

The Institute said that in each crash test rating, the Leaf and the Volt both received a good rating. Most people are wondering though since these are smaller cars how in the world are they able to get better crash ratings than the much bigger competition? This has to do with the crumple zones that were put into the vehicle when it was made. The designers knew that in order for the person to be truly safe, then they are going to have to do something that was out of the ordinary. However, with all the advancements that are being made, crumple zones have actually become quite standard. The crumple zone is the area in which the vehicle is going to absorb the most impact so to not transfer that impact onto those that are in the vehicle.

The Institute did pint out that most of the vehicles that they have been testing have been meeting the high requirements that are put forth by the Institute, as they point out more and more manufacturers are simply stepping up their game, knowing that crash testing is something that goes through the mind of buyers when they are considering purchasing. However, most people were surprised by the Volt and the Leaf performance. Unfortunately, the cars had been given a bad reputation based on the fact that they are smaller than what many people consider to be safe, however, the testing proved these people wrong.
